01 - Arrive Lahore
Arrive Lahore and transfer to Hotel
Day
02 - Lahore - Islamabad – Besham
This morning, we fly to Islamabad. A short drive (30km/45min) brings
us to Taxila, the most important site of the Ghandara cultures some
2000 years ago. Visit the museum with a rich collection of artifacts
and statues of Buddha dating back to pre-Christian era. Proceed
to Abbottabad (85km/1.5hr) for lunch. Enroute stop at Havalian Fruit
Market. After lunch, we move along the Indus River up into
the mountains. Terraced valleys and forested hills dominate the
landscape and quaint villages dot the way. A brief stop is made
to visit the vibrant bazaar at Shinkiari. About 4 hours (155km)
drive to Besham from Abbottabad and we spend the night in this rustic
village. Overnight at Palace Midway or similar.
Day
03 - Besham - Gilgit
Continue along the Indus River and the landscape changed dramatically
as
we entered the high altitude desert at Kohistan. about 9 hours drive
(340km) today and we arrive in Gilgit, the capital of the mountain
province with a colorful bazaar. En route visit Dobar Nalla, a small
bazaar at the riverbank joining the Indus. Here, it offers century-old
trade like cobbler to ironsmith. We will stop by at Summer Nallah
for some snack of tea and fried fish freshly caught from the streams.
A little further a field at Shitial lays the ancient rock carvings
of Buddhist pilgrims who had traveled along this section of the
ancient silk route. Enjoy your lunch at Shangrila Chilas before
moving on to visit the hot springs at Garam Chashma and arriving
at Gilgit, which offers excellent views of Nanga Parbat (8125m),
the world’s ninth
highest peak. Overnight at hotel.

04 - Gilgit - Gulmit
The drive today (150km/4hrs) is probably the loveliest along Hunza
river passing by picturesque quaint villages with apricot, mulberry,
apple and peach orchards and tiers of poplar trees. Lunch at Rakaposhi
View Point for its panoramic views over several snow-clad peaks
namely Rakaposhi (7788m), Ultar Peak (7388m), Diran (7250m) &
Golden Peak (7200m). You arrive at Gulmit, a quaint little village
along Hunza River and nestled amidst spectacular mountains with
excellent day hike opportunities. This afternoon, visit to a local
family and have tea with them. Thereafter, you may have a hand on
the across River Hunza.

Day
5 – Gulmit – Khunjerab Pass - Hunza
Expect one of the most spectacular journeys as we make the excursion
to Khunjerab Pass. It is about 2 hours (53km) to Sust where we stop
for photos at the Passu and Batura Glaciers. The impressive Passu
(7200m) and Shisper (7611m) peaks stand just behind. Ascend for
another 3 hours (85km) through the awesome jagged mountains of Upper
Hunza climbing up to the 4746m. This is the world’s highest
road and it marks the border of Pakistan to China. The scenery is
excellent on the pass.
On a clear day, Ibex mountain goats may be spotted. Retreat to Hunza
after a picnic lunch by the Indus. Overnight at Baltit Inn or similar.

06 - Hunza
Hunza is the centerpiece for pristine natural beauty along the Karakorum
Silk Road. A morning walk along water channels is a good way to
see Hunza, which only exists because of its effective irrigation
systems.
After lunch, we spend the afternoon exploring the bazaar.
Day
07 - Hunza
Today, do a full day hike to Doiker with excellent view of the valley
and many towering snow-capped peaks. Enjoy lunch at Eagle Nest named
because of its eagle eye view. On the return, we trek to the 800-year-old
Baltit Fort that was the old palace of the mirs of Hunza.

08- Hunza – Minapin - Hapakun
This morning, we drive to the village of Minapin at 2400m where
the 5-day Rakaposhi Trek begins. Heading towards your campsite at
Hapakun today, we stroll through the crooked alleyways of Minapin
village festoon with huge mulberry and walnut trees. Follow the
irrigation channel up to a bridge that leads back across the Minapin
River. A steep climb of about an hour to two takes you to the forest
and Bungidas, comprises of shepherds huts surrounded by juniper,
willow, thorn and rose bushes, with a few fields of barley and potatoes.
Trek up to Hapakun for the night. (Estimated trekking duration:
5 hours)

09 - Hapakun - Tagafari
Today, we trek on a good path through forest, zigzagging easily
through steep pastures to the top. Catch a good glimpse of the lateral
moraine of the Minapin Glacier. Your reward is a panoramic view
dominated by the sharp cone of Diran (Minapin) Peak (7266m) and
the gleaming serrated ridge connecting Diran and Rakaposhi. Our
experience and professional trekking guides will lead you through
a narrow path across the side of the lateral moraine for about 200
m. Camp out at Rakaposhi Base Camp tonight. (Estimated trekking
duration: 4 hours)
Day
10 – Tagafari - Day Excursion
Take the day easy. We make a light excursion from Tagafari to Kacheili
or even climb onto the top of the ridge (if weather permits) which
offers spectacular views of Batura, Passu, Shishpar and Ultar peaks.

11 - Tagafari – Hapakun
We begin our descent by back tracking our footprints to Hapakun.

12 – Hapakun – Minapin - Chilas
Another day of easy descending and arrive at Minapin village.
(Estimated trekking duration: 3 hours)
From here, drive to Chilas for the night at Shangrila Midway Hotel
or similar.
Day
13 - Chilas – Swat
We detour off Karakorum Highway on our return journey via Swat,
a valley of greenery. Drive about 8 hours and spend the night at
Swat Township, which is an important base for Buddhist culture that
flourished here centuries ago. Ruins abound in the surroundings.
Overnight at Hotel.
Day
14 - Depart Lahore
Rise early and drive the last 5 hours (270km) back to Islamabad.
Here, explore the Raja Bazaar of Rawalpindi as well as have a quick
tour of Islamabad. Visit the Shah Faisal Mosque, the biggest in
the country. The journey ends this evening with your departure transfer
to the airport for your onward flight back Home.
