Kevin Gooch: In August 2004 I did an independent trek with my wife. Starting from Skardu we took a 4-wheel drive up to Askole where the trek started. We walked up the Baltoro glacier to Concordia, K2 base camp and back over the Gondogoro pass. After a short rest, we went up to visit K6 and K7 and then returned to Hushe where we were transported back to Skardu.

Ali Mohammad was our guide for the trip. You will find that he is helpful, considerate, speaks good English and is great company. Above all he is very knowledgeable and has excellent mountain craft. ... he organized our porters, their gear and food, transport and the briefing/debriefing at the Ministry of Tourism in Islamabad. LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION TO ALI MUHAMMAD

My husband and I have been 2001 in Pakistan. When we came to Islamabad, we were searching for a guide. There have been some, who really wanted to charge us a lot of money. But in Ali we found a guide, who really tried to plan the tour, like we wanted to. We could express our wishes concerning equipment, food and porters. Ali always was honest and told us, what was possible or not. We made with Ali a trekking tour to Concordia, then to the K2-basecamp (my husband). Our way back was over the Gondogoro-La-pass. Ali was in a very good physical condition, he was never tired exhausted, but really somebody, whom we could follow. He hired reliable porters, we had never a dispute with the porters, and they also went with us the not easy Gondogoro-La-pass without discussion. In the end the whole tour was planned and carried out for us in a perfect way and the price was really fair. There have been no bad surprises afterwards. We can recommend Ali as a very good guide; we really had fantastic time on our tour with him. He helped as afterwards to go on the Karakorum highway, and also, when we came back to Islamabad, Ali was of good help.
